Types of Cleaning

A quick overview of different services and what they mean to us and to the industry.

Basic Cleaning

For Us: Regular maintenance cleans: vacuuming, dusting, wiping surfaces, light kitchen and bathroom cleaning, and general tidying.

Industry-Wide: Often referred to as “standard” cleaning—what most people expect for weekly or biweekly home maintenance.

What Varies: What’s considered “basic” can shift. One cleaner might include light dishes or beds made, others may not. Ask what’s included.

Deep Cleaning

For Us: A more thorough clean focusing on neglected areas like baseboards, cabinet fronts, behind appliances, and bathroom buildup. Often the first clean we do.

Industry-Wide: Deep means detailed. It’s supposed to tackle grime, corners, and buildup missed during basic cleans.

What Varies: Some deep cleans are just longer basic cleans. Others use stronger chemicals or equipment. Ask if the oven, fridge, blinds, or baseboards are included.

Hoarding Help

For Us: Compassionate, nonjudgmental cleaning with respect for the client’s emotional ties to items. We offer flexible cleanup, item sorting, and safety-first planning.

Industry-Wide: This often includes extreme clutter, pest control, odors, biohazards, and sometimes counseling support.

What Varies: Not all cleaners handle it sensitively or safely. Some charge hourly, others by volume. Make sure they know how to approach it without trauma.

Air BnB Services

For Us: We prep and reset short-term rentals like Airbnb quickly and reliably, often same-day, focusing on hotel-style presentation, restocking essentials, and documenting damage.

Industry-Wide: This usually means a fast turnover clean, often between guests. It may include laundry, restocking supplies, staging, and reporting damages.

What Varies: Some companies only offer surface-level cleaning, others restock, do laundry, or even manage the whole property. Always check what’s included.

Biohazard Cleaning

For Us: We handle it selectively, focusing on safety and legal compliance. Includes bodily fluids, pet excrement, pests issues, plumbing failures, or contamination.

Industry-Wide: This can vary from state to state since some companies are cleaning companies that will take Biohazard cleans and others are specifically for biohazards. Some areas require licenses if doing certain types of Biohazard and others don’t.

What Varies: Some companies will not take active pest infestation issues. Some companies are licensed for crime scene clean up as well, and thus charge more and other won’t take certain types of Biohazard cleaning.

Post-Construction/Post-Renovation

For Us: We remove construction dust, debris, paint removal, sticker residue, and polish the space so it’s livable or ready to show.

Industry-Wide: It’s about removing fine dust and materials after building projects. Often takes longer due to wall-to-floor debris. Dry wall dust is notoriously difficult to clean up.

What Varies: Some don’t include window tracks, vents, or high dust. Check what surfaces and tools are used.

Move-In/Move-Out Cleaning

For Us: An empty home top-to-bottom cleaning. We do inside appliances, cabinets, bathrooms, outside of vents dusting, ceiling fans (of standard height. We do not do high ceiling fans unless safe ladder is provided) and fixtures.

Industry-Wide: A detailed clean of vacant homes before or after tenants. Often required by leases.

What Varies: Some don’t clean appliances or interiors of drawers unless asked. Confirm what’s considered “ready-to-move-in.”

Abandoned Property Cleaning

For Us: We clean out trashed or neglected properties, offer odor control, remove trash if dumpster is provided, and can offer referrals to contractors for pest control or other services.

Industry-Wide: This overlaps with hoarding and foreclosure cleaning. Often includes trash-outs, repairs, and hazard cleanup.

What Varies: Some companies skip dangerous areas. Some work with banks or property managers only. Confirm if they handle full restoration or just clean-up.

STR/Landlord Services, Contracts, and Discounts

For Us: We offer discounted rates for recurring cleans or multiple units. Contracts available for property managers or bulk services.

Industry-Wide: Some cleaners give loyalty pricing for short-term rental (STR) hosts or landlords. Some have minimum unit numbers.

What Varies: Some expect consistent schedules. Others charge more for short notice. Ask about flexibility, item restocking, and contract length.

Junk Hauling

For Us: We do not offer junk hauling at this time but we can offer referrals to qualified partners who do. We can take small amounts of haul-off but usually outsource it.

Industry-Wide: This can range from full-service haul-offs to drop-and-go dumpster rentals. Some are licensed for hazardous waste.

What Varies: Ask about dump fees, volume limits, or whether they sort recyclables. Not all junk haulers are insured or responsible with disposal.

Maintenance and Repairs

For Us: We can offer p-trap cleaning, minor repairs during move out inspections, appliance troubleshooting/repairs, and more. So ask! We might be able to save you a little bit!

Industry-Wide: Many cleaners don’t offer repairs. Some legally can’t. Others have in-house teams or outsource.

What Varies: Ask if repairs are licensed and permitted. Some repairs can void insurance if done by an unqualified person.

Sanitization/Disinfection Services

For Us: Optional add-on that must be discussed/added on before booking.

What varies: Some companies confuse “cleaning” with “disinfecting.” True disinfection requires contact time and specific chemicals.

Green/Eco-Friendly Cleaning

For Us: We can accommodate scent-free, chemical-sensitive households upon request.

What Varies: “Green” is loosely defined. Some use vinegar and baking soda (which can damage surfaces), others use certified commercial green products. Always ask.

Ongoing Maintenance vs. One-Time Deep

For Us: Ongoing maintenance is cheaper per visit and keeps homes at a manageable level. Deep cleans are more intensive, often needed for the first clean which is what we typically assume and price for.

What Varies: Some charge the same either way. Others require a deep clean before starting maintenance visits.
